Karachi-The City Og Lightning

About Karachi
Karachi is the largest city, seaport and the financial capital of Pakistan. It is the twentieth largest city of the world in terms of metropolitan population, and is Pakistan's premier centre of banking, industry, and trade. Karachi is also the home of Pakistan's largest corporations that are involved in textiles, shipping, automotive industry, entertainment, arts, fashion, advertising, publishing, software development and medical research. It also serves as a major hub of higher education in South Asia, and the wider Islamic World.
Mera khayal hai Karachi Pakistan Ka Best Shehar hai.. Har Aitbaar se.. Yahan Country k barey barey Hospitals hain.. Universities hain.. Mosques hain.. Colleges hain.. Mazar-e-Quaid hai.. Bohat si Industries hain Waghaira Waghaira..

Mere Liye Ye Shehar Iss Liye Bhi Important Hai Kiun K Kuch Khas Log bhi yahan rehte hain (Hope You Understand )

-Mera Karachi-

Karimabad Meena Bazaar
*********************
Glimpse the pretty Karachi girls seen impatiently waiting to cross the road and reach the college on the other side.

Nazimabad-North Nazimabad
*************************
These areas were settled immediately after Independence. This part of the city houses people with modest incomes, those who served in the Middle East, USA and other oil-rich countries. Spacious houses, wide
roads, marriage halls, specialist clinics and educational institutions are all here. The only thing missing is parks. A locality from where Dr. Kadeer Khan, pioneer of Pakistan nuclear program came.

LA
*****
(Not Los Angeles but LiaquatAbad, also known as Lalu Khet or Das
Number).
Its commercial world and residential parts lying behind it is a world in itself. The centre of political uprisings, police actions and sometimes 'encounters', Lalookhet is perhaps the most known area of Pakistan. During the day its 450 feet wide road squeezes to a mere service lane as roadside vendors leave little space for the
commuters. In 1972, after the language riots, Bhutto had built the Super Market for these vendors, but none occupied it. The vendors pay to various agencies to stay on the roadsides. Here, the shops are always found brimming with shoppers, including some from posh areas who have come to know that an object purchased here often costs almost double the price at, say, Tariq Road. Here too are some 'house industries' that produce spurious products.

Liaquatabad Dakkhana
************************
It's a labour market of sorts. A brief look at the labour sitting along the footpaths reveals what saturation point our building industry has reached in recent years. Welders, masons, carpenters, and not ignoring their apprentices, mostly young boys who share the burden of their parents. Nearby lies the market of iron works that manufacture grills, gates and windows. All kinds of clients, rich and the so-called middle class, can be found here. The brisk business here tells the feeling of insecurity in Karachites lives. Come to think of it, all these gates and iron bars fail to do the trick when the house-owners have to themselves open the door at gunpoint! Nonetheless, the fixing of iron works gives a freak sense of satisfaction that they are safe at least till that happens.

Teen Hatti Bridge.
*******************
Down there is the cluster of hutments on the banks of a stinking Lyari river. Nobody knows how would they have been living with every kind of effluent flowing right at their doorsteps. Every rain brings untold miseries to them, and with every misery comes the promise from the government that they would be removed from there and provided alternative accommodation - a pledge yet to be fulfilled.

NIPA Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
**********************************
Here, the most interesting group is that of students. Some rushing to the university's main campus, others returning to their homes. The very complexion, their dresses, bags and other outfits will speak of what families they come from. Some with St Michael shoes, the others with rugged tyre soles, running after the buses.

Sabzi Mandi
***********
A constant bottleneck in traffic flow. The government has decided to move it to out of Karachi, but despite an alternative land, the traders do not seem to be willing yet.

Saddar (Downtown)
****************
The central bus stop that dispatches buses to every corner of the metropolis, you realize in quick time that, unlike downtowns in most big cities of the world, Saddar is the nastiest place to stop over or even walk through. Here the law of the jungle prevails. This is the poor man's land, the only moneyed people can be seen on Zebunissa Street, the second choice for them after Tariq Road. No time is prime time for this area. Except the strikes called by political parties or by the businessmen themselves, it remains jampacked. The footpaths
and almost every inch of open land is packed with vendors.

M.A. Jinnah Road - Tibet Centre
**********************************

Another round of traffic chaos. No one knows how to handle it. The auto-parts market that has swelled in all directions is one of the main reasons for this round-the-clock commotion.

Old Karachi
************
Behind Molvi Musafirkhana begins the old Karachi, the Ranchore line, Baghdadi, Liyari, Memon Society, Mithadar, Kharadar, etc. The older houses have been converted into multi-storeyed apartment blocks. For
generations these people long for potable water. Since Independence, successive governments have pledged to bring it to them, but nothing has materialzed so far. Here, broken roads, filthy and overflowing drains make life miserable. Khadda, once the centre of freedom movement, is but a stinking living abode. Since most of the residents work at the fish harbour, seaport and the KPT, they consider it suitable to live here and face the problems rather than moving out to other areas. But at least one finds that the family bondage still exists here. Small or big families, crammed into small apartments, show extreme closeness - a virtue life in Karachi misses.

Garden East and West
*******************
Occupied mostly by Memons, Khoja Ismailis and Baloch community. A great blend of old and new Karachi simultaneously.

Clifton and Defence Society
*******************************
The posh areas of the city. Since there are almost no bus commuters here, there are just a few mini-bus routes that touch some of its parts which are mostly used by domestic employees who work in the large houses. Here, city's trading and business tycoons, politicians, former ministers and prime ministers live. To live here is the status symbol, as this area has a huge cluster of the costliest of houses. Almost every house has more than one car. Many have their own swimming pools and other amenities. The shopping centres here display a different variety of products not available in other parts of the city. This locality has its own values, its social morals and family contacts. Since all families belong to the affluent class, new gadgets, newer models of cars and newest fashion trends come up here as soon as they are launched in the developed world. From Michael
Jackson to Kate Winset and Brooke Shield, all can be found here. Many vets thrive on the pets being kept by them. Even the medicines they use are imported, being sold at some selected dispensers.

Pathan Colony
************
Once in, you will find yourself in a Qissa Khwani Bazaar of Peshawar right in the middle of Karachi.

Sohrab Goth
***************
A Kabul in Karachi. Better avoid it guys!

Hawksbay Road
**************
The much older part of the city, one can find a number of villages, including the Moriro village, said to be occupied by the Moriro brothers and Mai Kolachi, from whom the city derived its name. Life is still primitive in these villages. No facilities for education, health, transportation etc. All this after 52 years of independence!

(Keamari Channel) Manora and Baba Bhit islands
************************************************** .
Manora was the first to be captured by the English in the 19th century where they also built a church. Very few people live here, but Baba Bhit island is perhaps a place held back in time. It still breathes in the 19th century.

Benaras Colony and Orangi.
**************************
Living in hutments, here live some of the impoverished people mostly bihari community uprooted from Bangladesh or pathan community migrated from upcountry. Place of famous Orangi Pilot Project of Hameed Akhtar Khan.

Korangi, Landhi and Memon Goth.
********************************
Industrial areas and people living here are mostly linked to these areas, or are those who can't afford to have residence anywhere else in the city. The Memon Goth has a different look to it. Memon Goth, has no living conditions.
